The DMPX-042 is a Dolphin-engineered turnkey module class supplied with a remanufactured Alfa Laval MOPX 209, MOPX 210, WHPX 409, or WHPX 510 centrifuge. These are distinct base machines, so every capacity remains attached to the selected machine and fluid. Dolphin is an independent remanufacturer and is not affiliated with Alfa Laval.

Source L/h values are canonical. US GPM is derived as L/h ÷ 227.124707 and rounded to two decimals. HFO values apply only to the named WHPX base machine; MOPX 209 and MOPX 210 have no HFO curve in this source set. See the technical-data methodology and machine-readable DMPX-042 record.
Installation Requirements
- Electrical
- 460 V / 3-phase standard; 240 V / 3-phase available. Single-phase sites: customer can add a phase converter.
- Operating water
- 50 psig, clean potable filtered water - city water works best, soft water only.
- Compressed air
- 100 psig, ~15 cfm (portable compressor is fine). Primary use: AODD sludge pumps on self-cleaning machines.
- Feed
- Hotter separates better - WVO/thick/emulsified oils ideal ~180°F; HFO 200°F+. Pre-strain dirty feed to under 250 microns. A PLC-controlled feed pump is usually built into the skid; if customer-supplied, use positive-displacement/AODD pumps - avoid centrifugal pumps on emulsion-prone fluids.
- Drain
- Separated sludge via AODD pump, 1 to 1.5 inch outlet. Separated water: 1 to 1.5 inch pressurized, or 3 to 4 inch gravity drain.
- Foundation & environment
- Level concrete pad is usually sufficient; small units available on portable cart skids. Indoor install preferred. Outdoor installs must be in a climate-controlled/heated enclosure to prevent freezing - freezing is a safety hazard.
Key Applications
Crude Oil / Tank-Bottoms Dewatering
The DMPX-042 handles crude-oil dewatering and tank-bottom BS&W (basic sediment and water) reduction for oil-field gathering stations, tank farms, and upstream production facilities. Crude-oil flow is application-specific; the published diesel and HFO values are not relabeled as crude-oil capacities.
Large-Scale HFO Purification
For large marine vessels, shore-power plants, and industrial boiler systems burning heavy fuel oil, published HFO 380 cSt capacity is 3,300 L/h (14.53 US GPM derived) for WHPX 409 and 4,200 L/h (18.49 US GPM derived) for WHPX 510, with viscosity specified at 50°C and centrifugation at 98°C. These are not MOPX ratings.
Industrial Waste Oil Processing
The DMPX-042 services large waste oil reclamation operations at fleet facilities, industrial plants, and centralized collection centers. Waste-oil throughput must be sized from the actual fluid properties and separation target. Explosion-proof options are available for hazardous locations.
Transformer Oil Purification
The DMPX-042 is used by utilities and industrial facilities to purify transformer oil in service, removing particulate contamination and free water. Transformer oil is not automatically assigned the OEM engine-lube or cross-head-lube capacities; Dolphin confirms flow from the actual viscosity, temperature, and separation target.
WVO, Yellow Grease & Aluminum Drawing Oil
The DMPX-042 platform is used for waste vegetable oil, yellow grease, and aluminum drawing oil duties. These application flows are sized separately and are not OEM diesel or HFO facts.

Our engineers spec explosion-proof, food-grade, and standard configurations. We'll confirm sizing and quote lead time for your application.
Where the DMPX-042 Fits in the DMPX Series
The DMPX-042 is the second-largest model in the Dolphin DMPX range. For medium industrial applications, the DMPX-028 is the step below. For compact or portable use, the DMPX-014 and DMPX-010 serve smaller-scale needs. For the highest-volume industrial and power-generation applications, the DMPX-070 is the flagship class. All DMPX classes use automatic self-cleaning bowl technology, but capacities are compared only for exact base machines and fluids. Frequently Asked Questions
What is the throughput of the DMPX-042 centrifuge?
DMPX-042 is not one universal flow rating. Published diesel capacities are MOPX 209: 7,900 L/h (34.78 US GPM derived); MOPX 210: 9,400 L/h (41.39 US GPM); WHPX 409: 8,400 L/h (36.98 US GPM); and WHPX 510: 10,700 L/h (47.11 US GPM), all at 40°C and 13 cSt. WHPX rated-reference values have unspecified source fluids and are not a 69 GPM class rating.
What industries use the DMPX-042?
The DMPX-042 is used in oil field operations for crude oil tank-bottom dewatering, large-scale biodiesel production, HFO purification at power plants and industrial boiler facilities, transformer oil purification, and high-volume industrial waste oil reclamation at manufacturing plants and fleet operations.
Is the DMPX-042 available in explosion-proof configuration?
Yes. The DMPX-042 is available in Class I Division 1 and Class I Division 2 explosion-proof configurations for use in hazardous locations including oil fields, refineries, chemical plants, and offshore platforms. Contact us to discuss hazardous-area requirements.
How large is the sludge bowl on the DMPX-042?
The DMPX-042 features a 1.64–1.66-gallon sludge bowl - significantly larger than the DMPX-028's 1.03-gallon bowl. This larger capacity reduces ejection frequency and supports continuous operation even with high-solids streams such as crude oil tank bottoms and heavily contaminated waste oil.
How does the DMPX-042 compare to the DMPX-028 and DMPX-070?
Compare the DMPX-028, DMPX-042, and DMPX-070 by exact base machine and fluid. DMPX-042 diesel values run from 7,900 L/h for MOPX 209 to 10,700 L/h for WHPX 510; HFO values exist only for WHPX 409 and WHPX 510. Visit the disc stack centrifuge overview to compare.
