What reconditioned means at Dolphin
People search for used, reconditioned, refurbished, rebuilt and remanufactured Alfa Laval centrifuges. At Dolphin they all mean the same thing: a remanufactured machine, rebuilt in our Warren, Michigan shop based on the OEM recommended procedure (see how used and remanufactured differ). Every unit receives:
- Bowl and critical rotating components visually inspected for excessive wear
- Every seal, gasket, friction pad, bearing and fastener replaced regardless of condition; exposed fasteners upgraded to stainless steel
- Rotating assembly vibration-checked and dynamically balanced as needed
- Base sandblasted and double-coated
- Full test run at rated speed before shipment on a surrogate fluid (hydraulic oil or water)
- Running amps and performance recorded on every unit; signed test or FAT report available on request (additional charges may apply)
This is our general standard; the exact scope depends on the unit and is written into your quote. Read the full reconditioning standard.
Why not buy as-is?
General used equipment dealers often list Alfa Laval centrifuges 'as is', with no bowl inspection and no warranty. The bowl is the critical part: a worn bowl can make the machine useless, and a replacement bowl assembly from Alfa Laval often costs more than the used machine. Missing bowl parts and an unbalanced rotating assembly are the other common risks. We recommend against as-is machines unless you know Alfa Laval centrifuges well.

Used Alfa Laval models available
Dolphin remanufactures the Alfa Laval families below. Our default recommendation for oils and fuels is the MOPX 207 or 209, and the WHPX series is the equivalent current-production family; MAPX full-discharge machines suit heavy sludge loads or match an existing installation. Stock changes, so see the current stock list or ask for current availability.
| Family | Models | Type | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alfa Laval WHPX | WHPX 405, WHPX 407, WHPX 409, WHPX 510, WHPX 513 | Self-cleaning disc stack, partial discharge | Current Alfa Laval production series, equivalent to the MOPX 207 and 209 that are our default recommendation for oils and fuels. Partial discharge ejects only the sludge layer, so less oil is lost. |
| Alfa Laval MOPX | MOPX 205, MOPX 207, MOPX 209, MOPX 213 | Self-cleaning disc stack, full discharge | Full-discharge design and our default recommendation for oils and fuels (MOPX 207 and 209). Also a good fit for heavy sludge loads and for matching an existing installation. |
| Alfa Laval MAPX | MAPX 207, MAPX 210, MAPX 309 | Self-cleaning disc stack, full discharge | Legacy full-discharge series, quoted when a unit suits the duty or matches an existing installation. |
| Alfa Laval MAB | MAB 103, MAB 104, MAB 204, MAB 205, MAB 206, MAB 207, MAB 209 | Manual-clean disc stack (solids-retaining bowl) | Smallest and simplest option for low-solids oils and fuels such as diesel, lube and hydraulic oil. |
| Alfa Laval WSPX | WSPX 207, WSPX 303, WSPX 307, WSPX 407 | Self-cleaning disc stack for water-based fluids | Machining coolant and water-based fluid recycling. |
| Alfa Laval NX, CHNX and G2 decanters, plus Sharples P-3000 and P-3400 | NX 314, NX 418, CHNX 418, G2-40, Sharples P-3000, Sharples / Pennwalt (Alfa Laval) P-3400 | Decanter centrifuge | High-solids duties: sludge dewatering, wastewater and oily tank bottoms. |
| Alfa Laval BRPX, BTPX, LAPX and Clara | BRPX 313, BTPX 205, LAPX-404, Clara 20 | Food-grade and biotech disc stack | Beverage clarification, food processing and biotech separation. |
Complete skids are sold as Dolphin modules, such as the DMB-004 built around a remanufactured MAB 103 and the DMPX-070 built around a WHPX 513. See all Alfa Laval centrifuge systems.

How to choose by fluid and flow rate
1. Start with the fluid and its solids
- Clean, low-solids oils and fuels (diesel, lube, hydraulic, turbine oil): a manual-clean MAB is the simplest and smallest option.
- Oils with water and sludge, running continuously (waste oil, used motor oil, WVO, fuel oil): a self-cleaning MOPX or WHPX.
- High solids (sludge dewatering, tank bottoms, wastewater): an NX decanter, often followed by a disc stack for polishing.
- Water-based machining coolant: a WSPX.
2. Then size by flow rate
A centrifuge capacity only means something with its fluid, viscosity and temperature. For example, the Alfa Laval WHPX 513 has a published marine diesel capacity of 16,400 L/h (72.21 US GPM) at 13 cSt and 40 °C, but only 6,400 L/h on 380 cSt heavy fuel oil at 50 °C. Each model page lists its published capacities with their conditions, and our technical data page has every source-backed rating.
3. Check that the volume pays
Two things decide whether a centrifuge makes sense: the value of the fluid and the volume.
| Fluid value | Example | Right machine | Min volume for ~2-year payback |
|---|---|---|---|
| Very high ($20 - $25+/gal) | Turbine / hydraulic lube oil | Smallest manual-clean skid (~mid $30Ks) | A few gal/day |
| High ($3 - $5/gal) | Clean diesel, fuel polishing | Smallest manual-clean skid (~mid $30Ks) | Tens of gal/day |
| Mid ($1.50 - $3/gal) | WVO / UCO / yellow grease | Self-cleaning disc stack ($55K+) | ~500 - 1,000 gal/day |
| Low (~$0.05 - $0.15/gal net) | Marginal used oil, wastewater | Self-cleaning disc stack ($55K+) | 2,000+ gal/day |
Not sure? Our paid sample testing service runs your fluid through the right centrifuge before you buy. The centrifuge selection guide covers the rest.

Used Alfa Laval centrifuges: frequently asked questions
+ Where can I buy a used Alfa Laval centrifuge?
Dolphin Centrifuge in Warren, Michigan sells used Alfa Laval centrifuges that it has remanufactured, test-run and warrantied in its own shop, with 150+ centrifuges in stock. General used equipment dealers usually sell Alfa Laval machines 'as is', and Alfa Laval itself sells new machines and some factory-remanufactured units. Call (248) 522-2573 or use the quote form on this page for current availability.
+ Are Dolphin's used Alfa Laval centrifuges sold as-is?
No. Every machine is remanufactured before it ships: the bowl and rotating parts are inspected, every seal, gasket, friction pad, bearing and fastener is replaced, the rotating assembly is vibration-checked and balanced as needed, and the machine gets a full test run at rated speed. 'As is' machines from general dealers usually have no bowl inspection and no warranty, and a worn bowl can cost more to replace than the machine itself.
+ What warranty comes with a used Alfa Laval centrifuge from Dolphin?
A 12-month mechanical warranty covering defects in parts, materials and workmanship from the date of delivery, as specified in the formal proposal, plus ongoing technical support for the original purchaser for the life of the machine. Standard exclusions apply (wear and consumable items such as seals, gaskets, friction material and bearings). Full terms are in the Warranty and Terms document that accompanies every proposal.
+ How much does a used Alfa Laval centrifuge cost?
Each unit is quoted for the application. As published anchors: the smallest manual-clean skid (Alfa Laval MAB 103) with controls and pumps starts around the mid $30Ks, complete plug-and-play self-cleaning modules start around $50K, EXW Warren MI, and systems with full stainless steel wetted parts start around the mid $60Ks.
+ Which used Alfa Laval models are usually in stock?
The models buyers ask for most: MAB 103, MAB 204, MAB 205, MAB 206 and MAB 209 manual-clean separators; MOPX 205, MOPX 207, MOPX 209, MOPX 213, WHPX 405, WHPX 510 and WHPX 513 self-cleaning separators; and NX 314 and NX 418 decanters. + Can I inspect the machine or test my fluid before buying?
Yes. You can visit the Warren, Michigan facility by appointment to see machines in stock, and Dolphin runs a paid sample testing service that puts your fluid through the right centrifuge and reports the results with a sizing recommendation.
+ Is Dolphin Centrifuge an authorized Alfa Laval dealer?
No. Dolphin Centrifuge is an independent remanufacturer of Alfa Laval centrifuges and is not affiliated with Alfa Laval. It was established in 1982 as an Alfa Laval aftermarket parts manufacturer and ships worldwide.
